St.George Church Muthalakodam

St.George Church  Muthalakodam is situated near Thodupuzha, is supposed to have constructed before 13th Century. It is believed to have been set up in the 19th century by an ancient noble lady named Kappathiaramma,who belongs to a member of the Mylacombu parish. It was re-built several times since then.The present church was built in the year 1973.The feast of St. George of Muthalakodam(Muthalakodath Muthappan) is celebrated on April 21–24 every year, the main feast days being 23rd & 24th. The uncontrollable  flow of worshippers starts by every day at early  morning  and continues  till 8 o'clock in the evening when the church closes.
                                          This beautiful church is considered to be one of the ancient pilgrim centers in  Kerala.Like other churches of St.George in Kerala the feast is celebrated at the same time every year.Muthalakodam is a suburb located 3 km. east of  Thodupuzha Town, in Idukki district in  Kerala state.

Angamali-A Fast Developing Satellite Town

Angamali  is a well-known municipality in Ernakulam  district in Kerala. It is a fast developing satellite town of Kochi.and is situated 33 km north of Ernakulam.It was Started as a Panchayat in May 1952  and later was raised to a municipality in April 1978.Angamali is also a Legislative Assembly constituency in Ernakulam district.It is considered to be  one of the fastest growing towns in Kerala.
                Angamaly is fully equipped with all means of transport.Kochin International Air-Port is situated near by.All major trains stops at Angamaly railway station.It serves as a major connecting point for people from the eastern side of the district to the rest of the country.Kanyakumari to Salem National Highway passes through Angamaly.Manjaly thodu  which flows through Angamaly was a major waterway and is a part of the new National Waterways programme and is getting developed.
                                                We can see many  cultural and devotional centers in Angamali. There are famous hospitals, and educational institutions which are running very successfully.  Angamaly has a state-owned industrial estate at its southern end which has numerous renowned factories. Kerala State Bamboo Corporation Ltd. has its headquarters at Angamaly. There are several small-scale cracker manufacturing units in the surrounding areas.Kalady,the birthplace of Adi Sri Sankara is only 7 kilometers from here,and the Sanskrit University is  situated here.

Peermade

Peermade is a hill station in  Kerala, included in Idukki district. It is high in the Western Ghats and 915 metres above from sea level.The enchanting landscape of Peermade includes murmering waterfalls, open grass lands and beautiful pine forests.Once it was  the summer rest house of Travancore Maharajas. Majority of people residing here belongs to Tamil Nadu.Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, is 43 km away from here.Herds of elephants and other wildlife as well as lakes are seen here.The name is supposed to be related to the Sufi saint, Peer Mohammed.It means "hill of the Peer"'.
                                                             This area is very fertile and had rich plantations of coffee, tea, cardamon, and coconut. The area, is having a long history of spice growing, now concentrates on producing organic black pepper, white pepper, ginger and turmeric.Mar Baselios Christian College of Engineering and Technology] and Marian College Kuttikkanam are located  Peermade.Thus Peermade plays an important role in Kerala history.

Thodupuzha Karshika Mela

Karshika Mela is an enchanting Agricultural fest that has been conducted by the agricultural department of Kerala in order to promote agriculture and agricultural products. The first Karshika Mela was conducted in 1989 at Kottayam. Later  almost all Karshika Mela is conducted at Thodupuzha. It is attracting a large number of people from different places.Many tourists and majority of the public are also  interested in participating in this great agricultural carnival.
                    Karshika Mela is conducted usually once in a year.It is organised  in the month of December. This largest agricultural festival in Kerala is  conducted to promote agricultural products and gives valuable information to the farmers about new agricultural products and crops.Classes and seminars are arranged along with this fest for this purpose. People can purchase many necessary agricultural items and other stationary items from this fest. This mela is also a good entertainment fest for each and every person who visits here too.
                           Kashika Mela is a very good example for the agricultural achievements that are promoted by government and various organizations.The farmers got opportunity for presenting their attainments in farming through Karshika Mela.

Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary

Periyar, is the best-known wildlife sanctuary in south India,Kerala. Though considered as a tiger reserve, Periyar is really famous for its wild elephants.One of its main attractions is 100-year-old artificial lake and its setting in the beautiful thickly forested Western ghats.There's plenty of other animals like the Nilgiri langoor, Nilgiri tahr, bison, deer, antelope and about 700 elephants to make the trip wonderful. The Periyar Tiger Reserve consists of tropical evergreen, semi- evergreen and moist deciduous forests. Its legal status as a National Park is still under dispute and only one notification has been issued.It was declared a Project Tiger Reserve in 1978 and the first research started in 1991.The national park and the tiger reserve is rated as one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in India for wildlife photography, bird watching, elephant herds and tiger watching.Some of the deeper valleys contain tropical evergreen forest with extremely thick tree cover that even bright sunlight finds hard to penetrate.There are, now, an estimated 40 tigers in the Periyar national Park. Periyar also happens to be the habitat of the beautiful Nilgiri Tahr, which is rarely to be seen.

Njandirukki Waterfalls

Thodupuzha is considered to be the fastest growing city in the Central Kerala.The fast development of Thodupuzha in many fields is unbelievable.Many tourist destinations in Thodupuzha has become the abode of beauty and the beautiful scenaries are enchanting the visitors and make their hearts filled with joy.One of the tourist destinations  near Thodupuzha is Njandirukki which is a hidden beauty in the depths of forest.It is a beautiful hillstaition and a major attraction to nature lovers. Though not steep and direct, the stream falls from over a height of 200 ft. The stream originating from Cheppukulam hill slips and sidles crab like across a treacherous rock at the foothill of Poomala-Methotty forest area. Hence the name Njandirukki. This is a spot to be visited only with an adventurous spirit.It is understood that this beautiful tourist destination will be marked in the World Map.
